Russia and Ukraine trade attacks, killing 10, including child in Chernihiv

Overnight strikes by Russian forces across Ukraine resulted in civilian casualties across several major cities. According to Ukrainian officials, Russian ballistic missiles and drones targeted Kyiv and surrounding regions, with particular impact in the northern city of Chernihiv where a supermarket was hit, killing two people including a nine-year-old girl and wounding 25 others. Ukrainian air force data indicated Russia launched seven ballistic missiles and 136 drones in the overnight assault.

Damage was reported across multiple population centers. In Kharkiv, a daytime drone attack killed one person and injured 16 others, according to local authorities. In Zaporizhzhia, a glide bomb strike resulted in one death and six wounded. Kyiv experienced fires in a residential apartment block following the overnight missile barrage, with three people wounded and vehicles damaged. In Sloviansk, two employees of the national oil and gas company Naftogaz were killed while assisting residents affected by earlier strikes.

Russia reported that Ukrainian forces conducted retaliatory strikes on Russian-held territory. Moscow-installed officials in Horlivka, located in the occupied Donetsk region, claimed four civilians were killed in a Ukrainian drone strike, with additional reports of injuries to emergency medical personnel. Russian authorities also reported that a Ukrainian drone attack on Belgorod, a Russian city near the border, wounded at least 12 people including two children.

Both nations continue to deny deliberately targeting civilians, though United Nations data indicates civilian casualty rates have increased significantly. Analysts attribute the rising toll to expanded use of short-range drones, glide bombs, and intensified strikes on infrastructure by both sides.
