Sooryavanshi praised by Laxman after teen stars against Zimbabwe in T20

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, India's teenage batting sensation, has demonstrated significant growth over the past six months, according to India's T20 coach VVS Laxman. The 15-year-old delivered an 18-ball half-century in the opening match of the T20 series against Zimbabwe, followed by a score of 81 in the final match as India swept the three-match contest 3-0. His consistent performances earned him player-of-the-series recognition.

Laxman attributed Sooryavanshi's success to his maturity and approach to improvement. The coach noted that the teenager reviews not only match performances but also practice sessions, demonstrating a commitment to continuous development. This mindset has enabled him to handle high-pressure situations and perform effectively against elite opposition.

Sooryavanshi's strong showing in Zimbabwe came after a challenging start to his international career in England earlier in the month. The youngest player to represent India recorded modest scores of 14, 13, and 15 in his first three T20 internationals and was subsequently omitted from the fifth match. However, Laxman expressed confidence that these early struggles would not derail the teenager's trajectory.

Laxman identified fitness as an area requiring attention, noting Sooryavanshi's eagerness to contribute despite physical challenges. The coach highlighted an instance where the teenager attempted a diving catch while injured and had to be removed from the field by the team's physiotherapist. Despite this concern, Laxman backed Sooryavanshi to progress significantly and break records at the international level.
